MD ID 7715 - Understanding Newborns: A Foundation of Pediatric Medicine
Description
This course is a 4-week examination of newborn care. The rotation will include two weeks of inpatient clinical time in the Well Baby & Intermediate Care Nurseries. Students will also experience continuity of care & the full spectrum of a newborn patient in their first weeks of life by participating in lactation consults & newborn follow-up clinic. Two weeks of non-clinical experiences will focus on nuances of newborn medicine. Newborn transitional physiology & the differences between term newborns & late preterm will be explored via team-based learning projects & the S.T.A.B.L.E. curriculum. We will discuss nutritional needs of newborns. Students will practice effective communication with parents to learn how times of family transition can impact wellbeing.
