SURG 7581 - Emergency Medicine Elective - South Jordan ED
Description
Topics: General principles of emergency medicine, diagnosis and management of both the ambulatory and the acutely ill or injured patient with life or limb-threatening conditions presenting to the ED such as chest pain, trauma, burns, drug overdose, strokes, seizures, wounds and sports injuries. The majority of the learning experience will center on the student's active care of his or her patients in the Emergency Department. Students will present the patient to the Attending Emergency Physician on duty . The student will be expected to have generated a differential diagnosis and plan of therapy for each patient to discuss with the Attending or EM Resident. Procedures, such as laceration repair, paracentesis, central line placement, fracture/joint reduction/relocation, may be performed by the student under supervision as dictated by their patient's condition.
