Description
Asynchronous, self-paced AWLS learning-modules prior to RIT
•https://www.wildmedu.org: Prior to the 2-day in-person AWLS certification (July 10/11), students will be expected pass all UUSOM AWLS modules
•Use the How to Study and Pass information to guide your independent studies

AWLS Learning Objectives:
1.Learn the primary and secondary assessment of an injured or sick patient
2.Provide basic suggestions for medical preparedness in austere settings
3.Demonstrate how to pack an effective first aid kit for rural use
4.Learn proper techniques for water disinfection
5.Learn the treatment of dislocations, sprains, strains and breaks
6.Learn how to treat medical problems and prevent infectious disease
7.Study and learn the treatment of animal and insect bites and stings
8.Learn the treatment of skin related injuries
9.Study the prevention and treatment of lightning related injuries
10.Learn to treat hot and cold related injuries including dehydration and frostbite
11.Understand the treatment of altitude related illnesses
12.Understand the management of head and neck trauma
13.Know the proper techniques for the transport of an injured patient
14.Know basic causes of infectious diseases in various settings
