MD ID 7855 - Authentic Leadership in Medicine
Description
This 0.5 elective course invites medical students to explore their mode of authentic leadership, offering
hands-on experiences that reveal the critical interplay between personal values, innate strengths, and
refined self-awareness. Designed to empower future physicians, this course merges reflective
exploration with practical exercises to cultivate leadership that is ethical, empathetic, and impactful
in complex healthcare environments.
The course is structured around four leadership principles. It will consist of independent learning and
reflection and four in-person, synchronous two-hour discussion sessions. Students will prepare for each
session by reading high-yield articles and completing leadership and personality type indicator tests.
Following each seminar, students will write a short reflection on how they are applying the newly
learned principles to their leadership roles and provide an oral presentation on what they have
learned.
