SURG 7901 - Health Improvement Experience
Description
The Healthcare Improvement Experience is a required course in the Value-Driven Healthcare pathway. In this course, students will utilize concepts and tools they learned in preceding courses and contribute to quality improvement (QI) or value research efforts. Students will identify an improvement project to initiate, collaborate or participate in. Students will identify a project sponsor. Through collaboration with a project sponsor, they will design, implement and evaluate an improvement project or some substantive part of a project. Students will work directly with their project sponsors and additionally meet periodically with course directors for regular coaching sessions. All students will be required to present their work in poster format or in an oral presentation. Students will work with their sponsors and the course directors to identify the most appropriate venue for their presentation. Students who wish to and are able to continue their efforts beyond the semester may do so at the discretion of their sponsor.
