MD ID 6620 - Safety by Design: Improving care through quality, value and safety (HSS)
Description
Through case analyses, interactive workshops, and exposure to local patient safety experts, students will develop practical skills they can apply during clinical rotations and future practice. Course Goals Students will: Know how to submit safety event reports and their importance in informing systematic change to reduce errors Describe how patient safety programs function in healthcare systems Participate in analysis of simulated patient safety event cases to understand the process of patient safety event root cause analysis and how medical errors are classified Practice medical error disclosure through simulation Learn and apply basic QI tools in the setting of patient safety analysis and harm prevention Explain how patient safety, QI, and high-value care intersect to improve care delivery Identify systemic contributors to medical errors and propose systems-level mitigation strategy
