MD ID 7700 - Advanced Integrated Science Course, Cancer: Biology and Lived Experience
Description
This course will integrate core foundational science and clinical care principles related to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The course will use a blend of classroom-based discussion, team-based learning, literature review, journal club, and clinical question-based research activities to explore foundational science concepts and patient narratives of cancer experience in depth. In addition to classroom-based activities, students will rotate in varied clinical settings to participate in clinical care for patients with cancer or suspected cancer, with a focus on asking and answering clinical questions based in foundational science concepts that explain cancer biology and treatment. Clinical settings may be outpatient and/or inpatient; specialties may include but are not limited to hematology/oncology, bone marrow transplant, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, palliative care, supportive oncology and survivorship.
