MD ID 7800 - Manual Medicine Elective
Description
This course will introduce students to manual medicine modalities. The preliminary goal of the course will be to educate students regarding common manual medicine modalities (massage, acupuncture, and osteopathic manipulation) including history, principles of practice, treatment technique, and indications for treatment/referral. From this base, students will learn introductory steps in tissue palpation and diagnosis and will be guided in application of simple techniques to address common musculoskeletal conditions (headache, neck pain, back pain, sacral pain, SI joint pain). Movement and mindfulness techniques will be integrated with hands-on practice to develop internal/external listening. Finally, students will be offered an open session to ask questions and observe selected treatment approaches with the instructors.

Through this elective, students will have the opportunity to explore various modalities and their application to musculoskeletal medicine and will be encourage to explore a modality of choice through shadowing or personal treatment experience.

Please note that this elective will be comprised of 4-hour sessions over the course of 2 full days. Please assure that you will be able to attend all sessions when enrolling in this course.
