SURG 7775 - Intro to Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery
Description
This sub-specialty elective is designed as an initial full-time exposure to pediatric cardiothoracic surgery. The sub-specialty elective is carried out at Primary Children's Hospital, and is designed to totally immerse the student in all activities of the pediatric cardiothoracic service, including cardiac intensive care unity and the operating room. In addition, participation in the didactic sessions of Cardiology Sign -Out and Cath Conference is required. Grading is based on the student's proficiency in the different aspects of patient care and medical knowledge. These aspects include fund of knowledge, differential diagnosis generation, patient presentations, and professional demeanor. Evaluations will be completed informally throughout the 2 week rotation and formally at the conclusion of the rotation by the attending physicians with whom the students works.
