MD ID 7215 - Getting Your Ed in the Game: Special Support of the Student-led Clinics
Description
This 0.5-2.0 credit course is intended to provide interested medical students with a way to get clinical elective credit by participating in student-led clinics. Students enrolled in the elective will further the service/learning work of the clinics in ways that go beyond their required involvement. Students will enhance their communication and patient interaction skills when working with a diverse patient population, gain deeper understanding of the cultural diversity and its impact on health care delivery as they coach more junior students, serve as a qualified interpreter*, fill vacancies in patient-care schedules, and/or complete other tasks as assigned by clinic leadership. Students will be able to tailor their participation according to their schedules and unmet needs of the clinics, including a 2 to 4-week block rotation or a longitudinal series of half-day sessions at times available during concurrent courses and spread over 1 to 2 semesters.(*Qualified interpreters have passed a training course.)
